Position Description

Plans and administers analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop designs for tools utilizing and applying engineering principals, research data, and proposed specifications. Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to design to determine feasibility of proposal.

Utilizes computer-assisted engineering software and equipment. Determines designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods by analyzing specifications and performance requirements. Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to tool design. Determines feasibility of designing tools or modifying existing tools considering costs, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors. Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design. Prepares or directs preparations of detailed drawings and schematics. Directs and coordinates manufacturing of prototype. Plans and develops experimental test programs. Prevents or eliminates defects in new or existing products. Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Confers with research and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required. Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses. Studies engineering and technical publications to keep abreast of technological changes and developments in industry.
